Dead End Signs

He’s always been a Rounder, mostly a down and outer

His dreams are about starting his life again

Most mornings when he wakes up, there’s another mountain to climb

And every road he travels, Seems to have a dead end sign

Of all the roads he’s traveled, none were straight and narrow

But they had one thing in common, they all went nowhere

And every curve he took, he tried to unwind

But he never stopped to look, for the dead end sign

Was his mom ma’s favorite, he had so much promise

But lost all he had to offer, oh so long ago

And though she loves him dearly

He never goes to see her, unless he’s down and out and has no place to go

Someone needs to tell him, he’s running out of time

Soon the road she lives on, will have a dead end sign

Once he had a family, two kids and a wife

He watched them wash away, through a bottle of his wine

Someone needs to ask him, to please tell us why

He never looked up, to see the dead end sign

I see him standing in front of the barroom

Smile on his face, I can tell by the way he looks

He wants back in the race

First curve he takes, he’ll try to unwind

But never find the brakes or see the dead end sign.
