campaigned on my behalf when I was the # 1 target of Republicans in the state, Al Gore flew in from Washington to do so. I have met 3 presidents, been to the White House, and US Capitol Building, had meetings with the Speaker of House and Senate Majority Leader.
Professional career includes: Three terms as a State Legislator, Austin Chair of the United States Olympic Committee for the 1996 Games, Writing a Public Affairs Column for 13 Texas Newspapers, Political Consulting, working as a Lobbyist, Executive Director, of a large non-profit association and Guest Lecturer on Public Affairs. Notable accomplishments: As a Legislator; drafting and passing over 30 new laws; As Olympic Chair organized seven (7) fundraisers to send Austin Olympians to Atlanta to compete in the 1996 Games. As an Executive Director of a non-profit - 175 college scholarships for underprivileged kids; as a graduate student; 130 page master’s thesis on Eco Development.
Education: MBA in Public Administration, Graduate Degree in Economic Development, Undergraduate in Political Science, University studies include: University of Texas, (LBJ School of Public Affairs) University of Oklahoma, (Economic Development Institute) St Edwards University and LaSalle University, workshops and classes at Texas A&M University and UT San Antonio. After leaving the Legislature, I went to work for Governor Ann Richards at Texas Dept of Commerce, my assignments included every thing from teaching ethics traveling the state advising cities on economic development to cross border economic development.
After leaving government I ran a non-profit in Dallas for 10 years during that time I sent 175 inner city kids to college and roughly 75 of those were orphans or homeless.
POLITICAL EXPERIENCE
I have been to the “West Wing” and had conversations with 4 Presidents, both bushes, Clinton and Biden. The most impressive to me was part of the 2 I had with Bill Clinton and the 30 minutes I sat alone with him as he was waiting for a taxi after a speech by Tipper Gore on child care in San Antonio. He spoke with such clarity on the issues from childhood to becoming an adult. He promised to follow-up with legislative options which he did a week or so later.
POLITICS
As for my political opinions I have earned those with an under graduate degree political science, an MBA specializing in Public Administration a Graduate Degree in Economics, I was the Vice Chair of International Relations, Human Services, Member, Corrections, County Affairs and Law Enforcement Committees in legislature.
After 50 years of political involvement, I consider myself a political strategist and expert, having worked in multiple campaigns. I have served as a voter registrar, Precinct Chair, (putting on elections) been a delegate to county, (County Chair) state and national conventions. (2) Worked as a surrogate speaker for several congressmen, 2 governors a US Senator and worked for statewide candidates for state senate and governor.
