Through his work with the Dallas All Sports Association, Bob Melton helped advance the idea of sport as a force for good in the community. The organization promoted athletics as a vehicle for opportunity and character development while raising funds to support scholarships for deserving student-athletes. These efforts were driven by the planning and execution of local, regional, and national sports-related events that brought together athletes, civic leaders, and supporters around a shared mission.

As a member of the regional board of the United States Olympic Committee, Melton similarly worked to support athletes beyond competition. He helped organize events designed to raise training funds for Olympic hopefuls, including dozens of athletes from Texas. These initiatives combined fundraising with public awareness, spotlighting USOC programs and elevating local and regional athletes while providing critical financial support for their development and preparation.
