The Wall

A city full of monuments, all built for you and me,
but there is one that just tears at the soul of our country
It was there I saw the Wall, there I felt such pain,
for all those Mother’s sons, for lives lost in vain
Until you’ve seen the Wall, you can never understand,
a reminder to us all of man’s inhumanity to man
They were our nation’s finest, left marching proud and tall,
my brother and my friends, patriots one and all
Black, white and brown, but their colors showed through,
each and everyone, red, white and blue
And when their country asked, they answered the call,
now they are but names, etched upon that wall
Oh yes I’ve seen the Wall and there I felt such pain,
for all those Mother’s sons, for lives lost in vain
Until you’ve seen the Wall, you can never understand,
a reminder to us all, man’s inhumanity to man
All these many years, I’ve tried to make the call,
find some rhyme, some reason to understand it all
Maybe it’s a lesson, to be learned by one and all,
the price was too damn high, all those names upon the wall
And maybe time has come, to right a nation’s wrong,
and say thank you to the living, welcome back, welcome home
Oh yes I’ve seen the Wall and Lord, I still feel the pain,
for all those Mother’s sons, so many lives lost in vain
Until you’ve seen the Wall, you’ll never understand,
a reminder to us all Man’s inhumanity to man
The futility of it all
58,000 names upon the wall
